The Low Cost Vein Detector

IDC (Industrial Design Centre) Student—Trivikram Annamali’s Low Cost Vein detector Design— has already won laurels: Trivikram was awarded the “Young innovator Award” by Zee 24 taas and DNA (http://bit.ly/22PUnSG) for this project. At Shennoy Innnovation Studio, we are now perfecting this for the market.

The Concept
Inability to accurately find a vein during medical procedures, results in multiple pricks and lost time. To make this process less of a “nightmarish” task, Trivikram explored a low cost vein detector.  Details of the project can be found  on  http://bit.ly/1qEPD60.

The Progress
Feb 2016 onwards, we have been exploring forms and shapes for a better ergonomic and aesthetic fit. We are also exploring what kind of LED’s can be used and in what quantity.

The Helmet Workshop

The Helmet Workshop was held on 9th, 10th April. The original helmet design was made in 2005 by IDC (Industrial Design Centre, IIT-B) student Mandar Kale. We created a new CNC prototype and brought it into our workshop to brainstorm on ways to improve the helmet, bring it into production and market it.  At the workshop, we disussed and conceptualised the following:
  • A two piece locking mechanism was conceptualised.
  • It was decided to explore new materials for the cushioning and casing while a nylon lining was finalised upon.
  • It was decided to change the position and styling of the ear straps and create a streamlined ear covering. We will also explore a silicon mould being attached to the polycarbonate casing in a single mold.
